Preparing for New Windows
Once you’ve picked out your new windows and finalized an agreement for installation, you’ll be contacted by the Energy Pro Windows team within 24 hours to set up an appointment for a complete physical re-measure of all your windows. This will be handled by the actual team that will be doing the installation. If a member of our sales team has already been out to estimate what new windows you’ll need, we’ll still send the installation team to re-measure so that we are
absolutely sure that your windows match the size of the openings. “Measure twice, cut once,” they say.
While the installation team is doing the final measuring, they’ll also be available to answer any questions you may have about the process, and they’ll probably ask you a few questions of their own, such as whether you would prefer they begin their work upstairs, downstairs, at the front of the house, or at the back. This ensures the installation process is as easy on you and your daily routine as possible. The installation team will also go over how you can help
prepare your home for windows installation day by letting you know what blinds and drapes may need to be removed, etc.
Window Installation Day
When installation day arrives, everyone on the Energy Pro Windows crew will introduce themselves before walking around the property inside and out and make sure that everything is ready for your installation. Even the most careful and professional window removals and installations can create something of a mess, so our installation crew will also put down drop cloths throughout the home to protect your house and belongings from dust and debris.
The first step of installation is to physically remove the old windows. Depending on the original installation, tear-out may be done from either the inside or outside of the home. Then, our crew of skilled craftsmen will prep the window opening, set the new replacement windows into place, and insulate around the new window with polyethylene, foam, and fiberglass material to ensure a tight seal that doesn’t allow any air infiltration.
On the exterior of the house, screws are used to secure the window to the frame, as well as PVC or wood stops, which are sometimes used inside the house, as well. Everything is caulked and sealed, and the new sill area is insulated. The final touch is placing custom-shaped, PVC-coated aluminum trim around the entire window and sealing it one more time with terpolymer rubber caulking material.
Post-Installation Cleanup
And that’s all there is to it! While Energy Pro Windows takes your window installation very seriously, our seasoned crews are so well-versed in their jobs that most window installations are finished in a single day, and you can start enjoying your new windows and see energy savings instantly. Before our crews leave, they’ll clean up so that it looks like they were never there—except, of course, for those great new professionally-installed replacement windows they leave behind!
